Fog Light

Relay Bypass

For the Jeep TJ

A number of folks have mentioned the wish to bypass the fog lamp relay to allow the fog lamps to operate with the high beams on for off-road use only . Yes you can bend pin one on the relay, but being the picky guy that I am I chose another route that’s just as easy and doesn’t wreck the relay.

   Materials and tools:

  • 3" of 14 gauge wire

  • 1 blue male slide connector .025’

  • 1 blue male slide connector .187"

  • Crimp tool

Remove glove box door assembly to expose                        Cut length and strip the 3” piece of wire and

fuse panel -Locate the two relays and lift them                       crimp the small male slide connector on one

up to unhook them from the clips. -Remove the                      end and the larger on the other.

                          right (passenger side) relay.

Plug one end where pin 3 was and the other where pin 4 was It now should look like the Thumbnail on the far left. Reinstall the

relays holders back on their clips which is a little tricky as they both need to be vertical.  Now Check the lamps to see if they

are working with both high and low beam. Re-install your glove box and you are done, however If you are looking for a safe place

to put your unused relay, try the power centre under the hood. There are a couple of unused (DEAD) sockets that will store it

nicely if you ever need the relay, as shown in far left Thumbnail.
