I would say 1 - 1.5 mm tops. Maybe the thickness of a twoonie.

personally, i wouldnt worry about it. but someone might say otherwise.

as for aligning the clutch... I have always done it by "feel".
snug the bolts up enough that you can still move the clutch disk by hand BUT it doesnt move by itself. then "feel" the distance around the clutch disk. when it feels uniform all the way around, tighten it up. dunno if that makes sense...
works for me everytime. I have never had to readjust anything, tranny always slide right in for me.
