Project Rome

Well I though it was time that I started a thread on the slow progress of my YJ build up. Finally found and organized the pics that I do have.

So I bought the 87' 6 cyl Bone Stock YJ off a redneck dude in Owen Sound back in 2002. It was a pretty good deal.. except the night before I picked it up he and his buddy took it out (along with a crossbow and lots of beer) and as they were driving the passenger decided to shoot over and out the drivers window at something. One side of the crossbow hit the driver and the other broke the windshield. He eventually paid for another one for me. Buzz and I drove it home and yes I was able to actually drive it for a bit.

Once we found a shop to start ripping her apart we found out just how bad this jeep was and more 'foam stuff it' than could be imagined. After buying a new/used/better frame, 4.10s, new tail gate.. I was off to a slow start.

Over the past few months is where most of the work has finally gotten started. Tearing her down and patching and rebuilding pieces eg. rear crossmembers so far.

I will continue to update as we build.. as I can't wait to see the finished product and this thread will allow me to see the before and after of all the hard work

WHAT I HAVE SO FAR:

New/used frame sandblasted.
Rebuilt crossmember 2 inches higher to accomodate my gas tank lift
8.8 Rear Axle from a 1999 Frod Exploder *lol* and 4.10s
1990 Yj Front D30
1998 AX15 Tranny
4" Trailmaster Lift Kit, drop pitman arm, and tow hooks *best x-mas present EVER!!*
Worm picker lights for night wheelin'
35" Kumho Ventures MTs and just regular black steel rims
New YJ Tailgate *which will fold down like the CJs*
Custom made BTO bumper
And so far that is all I can think of...

Atta girl, HN. Good to see you gettin' down'n'dirty with your baby. Sounds like you're going to have a pretty capable rig once you're done. Good for you.

Tub Update

Well I finally found some time and got over to the shop with K5 (Buzz). Our goal was to get the tub off the frame and finish up a few small things. I am telling ya .. the more I rip and tear at this jeep... the more frustrated I am getting. I now see why some people would buy new but then I am also gaining the experience of "knowing" my jeep inside and out. Anyways.. after sparks, flames, poking and prodding and a hell of a lot of swear words... this is the shape that my tub is in and the work we have ahead. it

Naw.. we will be making pieces since we have access to steel, hydraulic sheers and brakes, and electric rollers.

I am just going to be keeping the motor stock for now, so just a 4.2L. As for the lift.. when I first started I was going to go with the SOA but then decided on a kit cause Buzz got me one for christmas So I will be going with a 4" trailmaster and 2" body. The only good thing that I can see so far about having a lot of body work is that I will get to learn how to weld it

So far I learned "A before O, or up you go" <----- for torches

I will keep updating as I go along.
